How a single license for RasterServer provides conversion

services for anyone you designate on the local network.

One License – Many Users RasterServer does not have to run on every user’s machine. It is installed and run on only one CPU. It is then set up so that it constantly looks in designated folders for files to convert.

The illustration below shows an example setup:

Each row in the job spreadsheet has been set up to enable a group of users to convert files for their needs. Rows 1 and 2 enable users in the Engineering Department to drop copies of DWG or DXF files into a folder named Eng_DWGs (called a polled folder).

RasterServer finds them and uses a Setting named dwg to b&w pdf – A3 to convert them to A3 PDFs which are saved into the folder RS_out. At the same time Row 3 is enabling Maintenance Department users to convert Plot files to TIFFs. And in Row 4 Costing is making PDFs from Excel spreadsheets.

Set up is simple The RasterServer administrator first creates a Setting using the Settings icon in the left hand panel (the Setting specifies the type of output required, for example resolution, pen file to use, orientation). She then clicks on the paperclip icon, selects the path to the polled folder and enters *. followed by the file extension. Finally she selects the folder where the output is to be saved and the Setting to use. The new job row then appears in the RasterServer window.

Run in the background Clicking on the ! starts RasterServer. The window can then be minimized and RasterServer left running. Users drop copies of  their files for conversion into their In folder. Their output then appears in their Out folder. A log is written to the bottom panel.
